How Danny Zaslavsky Built VINCUE — Pain Pushes, Vision Pulls
Danny Zaslavsky doesn’t do sanitized founder stories. On the latest episode of Dealer Out of Office, the podcast from VINCUE partner Auto Hauler Exchange, hosted by Jake Berkal and Frank Zombo, talked to Danny about the exact stretch of his life he could have skipped past and didn’t.
The line that holds the whole conversation together is one he keeps close: pain pushes, vision pulls.
From a Kansas City car lot to a clear idea
Danny grew up in a duplex in Kansas City, handed between his parents’ work and his grandparents’ house because that’s what childcare looked like for an immigrant family with no community and no cushion. His dad came from Ukraine in the late seventies with nothing and started a small car lot. Danny grew up inside it, cleaning cars, selling cars, watching his dad move.
One idea stuck harder than the rest, drilled in by his father: when you see an opportunity, you sink your teeth in and you don’t let go.
The year that changed the math
The clarity Danny operates with now was forged in a brutal stretch. Inside a single year, he weathered profound personal loss and watched his father lose his voice to a stroke. He calls where it left him “the belly of the whale,” miserable, full of potential with nowhere to aim it.
He talks about all of it honestly on the episode. It’s some of the most candid you’ll hear from a technology founder, and it’s worth hearing from him directly rather than paraphrased here. What matters for the VINCUE story is the choice he made next: stop being pushed by pain and start being pulled by vision.
The breakfast that built VINCUE
Years earlier, Danny had watched a friend named Matt Watson get talked into a computer install at the family dealership, spot a shoebox full of note cards, and build software to replace it. That software became VinSolutions, later acquired by Cox Automotive. Danny had seen, up close, what happens when someone actually cares about solving the dealer’s problem.
So when the pain got loud enough and the vision got sharp enough, he called Matt for breakfast. He had a business plan. He’d even run it through competitions. Matt asked one question, had he ever built technology before? Danny said no. Matt said he’d need a partner, and introduced him to Chris Hoke, who had the technical range Danny didn’t.
Danny’s word for the fit: perfectly different. Nine years later, that partnership is VINCUE.
The problem that still drives it
The thing that lit the fuse hasn’t changed. Danny watched his own dealership run seven different systems to manage a single piece of inventory. He watched technology vendors grow their businesses on dealers’ money without moving the dealer forward. A race to the bottom, and nobody stopping it.
VINCUE was the answer to that: replace five or six legacy systems with one platform for appraisal, inventory management, and acquisition, and now push into AI that scales human productivity inside the store, not just speed. Remove the friction. Help people do more without simply moving faster.
What he protects
The most portable advice in the episode isn’t about software. It’s about what to guard when you’re building something: protect your clarity. Know why you’re doing it. Know who comes with you and who doesn’t. Then build the resilience to defend that clarity when it gets tested, because it will.
He’s just as direct about scaling. You don’t turn a corner and suddenly disconnect when you’re the one everyone calls. You make decisions that scale you, grow other people, model the behavior you want, and run on a couple of mantras that act as filters, not slogans. At VINCUE, those are “GAME ON” and “on it.”

Our Dealers Can’t Stay Quiet on Google

Launched VINCUE a couple months ago for our dealership as we were previously on vAuto. We love the pricing, software, and the support team is engaging with a lot of new features coming. It was a GREAT decision to switch from vAuto to VINCUE and we are very happy with the new software and support team.

New to the VINCUE family, and I’m very impressed with the immediate support provided by the team. Charlie Basham has been a key factor in getting the dealership started on a great path with the VINCUE system. He has been very responsive to my questions and has made sure I can navigate the key reports and understand the process used. Cheyenne Currier has also been very responsive with merchandising uploads needed by the dealership. I look forward to working with the VINCUE Team in the future.

Was previously with another provider for 16 years but now have been with VINCUE for 6 months and I absolutely love it and would never go back to my old provider. Even if you’re not considering making any changes right now, this is one I would look into and you won’t regret it! What I realized is how behind the times my previous provider is and I didn’t even realize it until I learned about VINCUE!
